Q: WHAT EXACTLY DOES THE CAREER CENTRE DO?

A:   Essentially, we are your one-stop shop for all your job search needs! We offer access to phone, fax, copiers, internet and computer use for electronic job search, word processing, job boards, printed resource materials and information sessions.  We have knowledgeable, professional Resource Specialists on the floor to assist you at all times.

If your job search has stalled, we can offer confidential, one-on-one Career and Employment Counselling to unemployed Canadians and those eligible to work in Canada.  Our professional staff has expertise in the career development field. You will be offered individual counselling, as well as assessments and workshops designed to compliment our counselling intervention.

Q: CAN YOU HELP ME GET A JOB?
A:   Unfortunately we are not a placement agency. Our mandate is to assist unemployed Canadians and expedite their return to the workforce. We can offer you all the tools you need to get a job and keep a job.  Our professional Resource Specialists are current on the local labour market conditions and can assist you in your job search.
We can refer you to the appropriate community agency if our service does not meet your particular needs.

Q: AM I ELIGIBLE FOR YOUR SERVICES?
A:
If you are actively job searching in the Barrie area you may take advantage of all our resources at no cost.  If you are unemployed, about to become unemployed or are re-entering the workforce after an extended period, we can help you assess your needs and direct you to the most appropriate service.

Our Mandate is to assist all unemployed Canadians and those eligible to work in Canada who are destined for the labour market, to prepare for, find, and keep employment year 'round.

If you are currently receiving Employment Insurance or have established a claim within the last five years, we can assist you to define whether you qualify for special employment programs if they meet your needs.

Q: I'M NOT SURE WHAT KIND OF JOB I SHOULD LOOK FOR - I NEED ASSISTANCE IN MAKING CHOICES.
A:   An integral part of the service we deliver focuses on the Career Decision Making process. You will work together with one of our career professionals to tailor a plan to suit your individual needs. We have a wide variety of assessments to assist in determining your "next step".

Q: I'M NOT SURE HOW TO LOOK FOR A JOB - SEARCHING FOR WORK SEEMS A LOT MORE COMPLICATED THAN IT USED TO BE.
A:   Looking for work is a fulltime job. We can help you with your job-search, resume development, cover letter, as well as your interview techniques. We offer current, local labour market information too! Drop in and find out "what's hot" and "what's not"!

Q: I CAN USUALLY GET A JOB, BUT I HAVE TROUBLE KEEPING A JOB.
A:   Sometimes we develop barriers or "road-blocks" to employment. Your needs may include assistance in identifying challenges that may impact on your return to work.  Your counsellor will work with you to develop strategies to overcome them.
